What?
The sound of the
Boston underground descends on the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge for an
evening beat-science and deep-dub featuring DuoTone, Wayne&Wax, and
Zion Blood.
Who?
DuoTone:
The Beat Research parties usually find DJ C and DJ Flack blending riddims
and genres on the turntables, but it’s not often that the two join powers
to activate DuoTone. In this configuration they create bombastic-audio-visual-beat-collages,
and acapella-hip-hop-jamz, with 3 turntables, 2 laptops, 2 microphones, and
a video projector. DuoTone has rocked parties, performed at clubs and museums,
and scored silent films at theaters, from New York City to Prague. They've
recently launched the Beat Research record label to release a series of 12”s
and CDs featuring their own eclectic beats as well as those of other
Boston area riddim-scientists like Wayne&Wax, Local Fields, and more.

Wayne&Wax:
Dubbed "riddim professor" by the Boston Phoenix, Wayne&Wax
is currently writing a Ph.D. dissertation on the thirty-year interplay between
hip-hop and reggae. While living in Jamaica during the first half of 2003,
Wayne conducted dissertation research, recorded an album’s worth of
songs, interviews, and soundscape samples, and initiated a series of digital
music workshops in high schools and prisons in and around Kingston. The resulting
album Boston Jerk is a classic. The beats are phat and the lyrics
are brilliant. A 12-inch single for Wayne’s track A It Dat was
released last year on the Mashit label. On top of all that, he teaches electronic
music courses at Harvard Extension School and Brown University, and pens
the stellar music blog www.wayneandwax.blogspot.com.

Zion Blood
Zion Blood is live dub-reggae trio consisting of Steve D (Mang Dub) on
keys, Geoff Scott (Public House, ex Miracle Orchestra) on Bass, and Brian
Sayers (State Radio) on drums. This will be a release party for their
self-titled debut album on the Pub Records Label. The group has been
playing around town for the past couple of years and these recordings
capture their live, meditative-dub energy. Their style is innovative,
their compositions are original, and the playing is spot on. This will
be an essential record for dub fans far and wide.
